At Lechner, our Spatial Data Strategy focuses on reviewing and standardized publishing our geospatial data assets to support open data initiatives. Lecher is committed to this open data perspective and have already launched our data-sharing roadmap, begun unlocking its datasets.
Whether for businesses, educational institutions, or citizens, users rarely need raw geospatial data — they need the insights and answers derived from them. This is where Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) come into consideration, serving as a digital bridge between data providers and users.
In early 2026, the Lechner Knowledge Center launched its own Spatial Data Strategy to position the organization as a recognized data hub both domestically and internationally. A core pillar of this strategy is to share in a standardized way our data assets and make them as much as possible openly, widely accessible. Through promoting this open data strategy, our objective is to expedite the establishment of a comprehensive national spatial data infrastructure."
In line with this initiative, we are advancing our open data rollout. Starting May 21, the administrative units and geographical names databases are available free of charge at inspire.lechnerkozpont.hu, in addition, the National Geospatial Base Map (NGMHu) WMTS service is now open to everyone. This is the country's first base map service built on core data derived from remote sensing and specific state thematic geospatial systems.
But what APIs do you actually need? We want to hear from you — share your ideas and concepts with us at openapi@lechnerkozpont.hu.
