Preparation of land cover data for the LULUCF matrix and preliminary integration of land-use data into the greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory

Use cases
Remote sensing

Generation of a test time series containing the change data for the LULUCF matrix - which forms part of the GHG reports - in a spatially explicyt format.

Problem description

In accordance with international reporting obligations related to greenhouse gases, a national greenhouse gas inventory must be prepared and updated annually. In accordance with legislation governing the content and preparation of national reports on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change, geographic data on land-use change must be tracked and reported in a spatially explicit manner. The data used for testing purposes were compiled with the involvement of the following institutions: under the leadership of AKI, in collaboration with LTK, AÉM, MÁK, SOE, KSH, and NÉBIH.

Solution workflow

Based on the specified methodological principles, the LTK developed a methodology for the geospatial preparation of the base layers of the LULUCF matrix through the spatial integration of domain-specific data and remote sensing results.

Output

A test map layer time series containing spatial data on LULUCF land-use categories and associated changes, along with tables containing test area data, for the period 1985–2022.
