Geographical Names Database
A collection of nearly 80,000 geographical name records, based primarily on the publications Gazetteer of Hungary I and II and the settlement name directories of the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH).
What does it contain?
The Geographical Names Database contains a total of 40 categories of geographical names. It includes the names of settlements, settlement parts, regions, protected natural areas, field divisions, forests, landforms, hydrographic features, notable terrain points, and certain important transport-related features, with a name density corresponding approximately to map scales between 1:25,000 and 1:50,000. Data enrichment to support 1:10,000-scale coverage is currently in progress.
The location of each named feature is defined by the county, settlement, and geographical coordinates. The database also records the type of name, name variants, and the sources of both the primary name and its variants.
